The Big Lie
A recent Twitter thread in which the Big Lie is told one more time and truth is aired.
Isabella Bovary @BovaryIsabella Can you immigration supporters make a case for USA taking in asylum seekers when seniors & children, citizens, don’t have enough food or proper housing? After we (my tax money) make our own secure, then we help others. Please begin helping citizens with your law degree from USA.
Guy McLimore @TFTGuy It’s called sharing. Apparently it isn’t something we teach our kids in America any more. Our seniors and children who don’t have decent food or housing suffer from the same problem as does the asylum seeker. A tiny group of greedy people who want to control it all.
Y’all forget that almost ALL of us were immigrants once. If others had failed to share, our grandparents would have died. You wouldn’t last 5 minutes under the situations asylum seekers are fleeing.
America grew strong on the dreams of immigrants. We began to decline when we decided to abandon our core values and shut our borders to those dreamers.
Our productivity has increased exponentially. If we chose, that productivity could decently feed/house/provide medical care to everyone here & welcome more besides. The only reason we do not is because we put more & more of our wealth into the hands of fewer people.
Americans work harder today and get a smaller piece of the pie for it. We CHOOSE to allow that to happen, working against our better interest. Why? Because the people who produce the wealth are inadequately represented in the decision making.
Trickle-down economics, gerrymandering, giving “rights” to corporations & denying them to individuals, fear-mongering about “illegal aliens”, “socialism”, and other misused buzzwords - it is all a cover for rampant greed.
When a white person steals from you, you figure they are just better at playing the game and you let it slide. When a non-white person succeeds at working for what they get, you fear they are taking it from your pocket.
The sooner white working people realize they have more cause in common with the black & latinx poor than they do with the ultra-wealthy whites they idolize, the better.
That wealthy Congresscritter who wants your vote and always has an excuse for why things aren’t getting better isn’t working for you, even when they look like you and talk like you. They’re pushing the money uphill so they get a piece of it.
So keep all that crap about how we can’t afford to feed, house and care for our current citizenry, and how taking in asylum seekers would make that even harder. That’s a lie and it always has been. We have more than enough for everyone when it is shared fairly.
If everyone was paid a fair wage, and given their fair share of the massive increase in productivity they worked to create, no one would go hungry. The general standard of living for EVERYONE would rise to match the rising productivity.
