Tip for Choosing a PC Gaming Desk

If you’ve spent a lot of money on your gaming PC, gaming monitor and PC gaming accessories, you’ll want to buy a decent gaming desk to complete your setup. However, there are a few things to consider before you select a new gaming desk. We have some great tips that can help you to choose the best gaming desk for your needs.

Desk height

The height of your desk can change how comfortable you feel when gaming. A desk that’s too low might not work with your current gaming chair. It can be annoying if the arms of your gaming chair won’t go under your desk correctly. The right posture is also critical if you want to prevent back issues when sitting at your gaming desk for prolonged periods of time. Choosing a desk that’s adjustable can prevent these issues; you can change the height of the desk to suit your personal preferences and your chair height. Most quality gaming desks will have the ability to adjust the height slightly, but not all desks. Look for this feature when purchasing a new gaming desk.

Desk layout

You can choose from several gaming desk layouts when purchasing a gaming desk. Rectangular L-shaped and U-shaped are the typical layout options. Before deciding, take a look at your gaming space and evaluate how each desk type will fit. If you have unlimited space, choose a U-shaped desk. This will give you the most space to spread out your gaming equipment and any snacks or drinks you want to enjoy during gaming sessions. A U or L-shaped desk will also have additional space for storage underneath the desk. This might be important if you need to store computer components and games or use your desk as a workstation for your job. Some U-shaped desks will have enough space to store two computers or laptops if you have one for work and one for gaming.

Desk size

Measuring the space you have is the first step when determining the correct desk size to purchase. Your desk needs to fit in your area with enough room for you to get in and out whilst sitting comfortably during gaming sessions. In addition, your desk needs to be big enough for your gaming monitor. The best gaming monitors aren’t necessarily the biggest; your choice of gaming monitor will depend on your budget and preferences. A large curved monitor will need a more extensive and deeper gaming desk. Otherwise, you’ll be sitting too close to the screen, which can result in eye strain and make it challenging to see every part of the screen. Many gamers decide to upgrade their gaming monitor to a larger size, then discover they need to replace their gaming desk to accommodate the larger monitor. Take a look at other gamer setups to determine how much room you need on your desk for your monitor size.

Quality gaming desk

A cheap gaming desk will become frustrating after spending long periods sitting behind the desk. They tend to come loose and start to move as you’re trying to game; you might also find the finish easily scratches or begins to flake away. A good quality gaming desk made from solid wood or glass will last much longer, and you won’t find it moving or creaking when you’re playing for long periods. If you spend a significant amount of time at your desk, it's worth investing in a good-quality gaming desk if your budget allows for this.

Extra features

Many gaming desks will have some additional features that can help to improve the comfort of your gaming experience. This could include a cup holder, keyboard tray, monitor stand and integrated desk lights. Whether you choose a simple desk without any features or one with all of the best features will depend on your budget and preferences. Some gamers will prefer a larger, higher-quality gaming desk with fewer features over something with lights and cup holders. Always shop around and look at the reviews before buying a gaming desk. Forums are also a great place to see other gamers’ setups; you can see what works and choose elements from these for your own setup.
